Who Is Lacy Jane?
Lacy Jane is the pen name under which the author chose to publish her first memoir. Over the years, friends from different parts of her life began calling her "Lacy Jane" without knowing others had given her the very same nickname. It stayed with her, and when the time came to publish her first book, it simply felt like the right name to write under.
Why She Wrote This Book
What the Darkness Made Me is her first book.
She wrote it with one hope in mind: that someone still living in darkness will find a little light within its pages.
If sharing her story helps even one person believe that healing is possible and that the cycle can be broken, then every difficult memory was worth putting into words.
Her Life Today
She lives in the Deep South with her husband and their miniature schnauzers.
She enjoys live music, traveling, and quiet moments at home.
The Independent Publishing Journey
What the Darkness Made Me is independently published—a decision that allowed me to remain closely involved in every part of bringing this story from my life to the page.
Self-publishing has meant wearing more hats than I ever expected. Beyond writing the book, I've been involved in the editing, formatting, cover design, proofing, publishing, and all of the small details that happen behind the scenes before a book ever reaches a reader's hands.
It has been a learning process filled with revisions, mistakes, unexpected challenges, and more than a few moments of starting over. But there is something especially meaningful about knowing that this book has remained mine from beginning to end.
For a story this personal, that mattered to me.
What the Darkness Made Me tells parts of my life that were once difficult to even put into words. Choosing to publish independently gave me the freedom to tell those parts honestly, in my own voice, without changing the story to make it easier or more comfortable for someone else.
This may be my first book, but every page—and every step it took to get here—is something I am incredibly proud to put my name on.
